Research Proves Chiropractic's Effectiveness

Chiropractic care has been proven to successfully treat back, neck, acute and chronic pain.

“Acute and chronic chiropractic patients experienced better outcomes in pain, functional disability, and patient satisfaction; clinically important differences in pain and disability improvement were found for chronic patients.”
– Haas et al (2005), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics

“In our randomized, controlled trial, we compared the effectiveness of manual therapy, physical therapy, and continued care by a general practitioner in patients with nonspecific neck pain. The success rate at seven weeks was twice as high for the manual therapy group (68.3 percent) as for the continued care group (general practitioner). Manual therapy scored better than physical therapy on all outcome measures. Patients receiving manual therapy had fewer absences from work than patients receiving physical therapy or continued care.”
– Hoving et al (2002), Annals of Internal Medicine

What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health care discipline that emphasizes the body’s ability to heal itself without the using drugs or surgery. It focuses on how the relationship between the spine and the nervous system affects the preservation and restoration of health. Dr. Powers works in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient

Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Yes.  While any form of health treatment contains a degree of inherent risk, there is little danger in chiropractic care when administered by a licensed practitioner.  (All states require that chiropractors be board-qualified, licensed, and regulated according to stringent criteria.)  Patients using appropriate chiropractic treatments are at a lesser risk than those using prescription drugs and surgery. Chiropractic care is even safe for children.  If your condition is not able to be treated through chiropractic care, Dr. Powers will tell why and refer you to another health care professional if you desire.

How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
Dr. Powers will use his hands to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, to reduce pain, and restore or enhance joint function.  It is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. He adapts the procedure to meet your specific needs. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.

When should you seek care?
If you are injured, you should be evaluated as soon as possible.  While many with chronic pain can be helped through chiropractic care, receiving care earlier leads to faster healing and less pain.

How often are appointments needed?
Just as people who regularly have dental checkups experience less decay and those who have their car aligned experience improved steering and less wear and tear on their tires, people who have regular chiropractic care have improved range of motion and less stress on their bodies.  Dr. Powers will help you decide what frequency of care will be best for your individual circumstances.  Typically, those who seek care only after they are in pain will need more visits initially to correct and stabilize their alignment.  As their condition improves, in time, only maintenance visits may be needed.
